For a client i'm busy making a sculpture of an old stool. I have complete freedom over it.

What to do? i gathered some of the memories, one of them was that the owner played being a tortoise with it, crawling with the stool, pretending to be a tortoise.

Good starting point. Just work it out further.

What does a tortoise think of, while swimming in the Carraibean? Years ago i followed a log that was kept by Nanci on the Netherlands Antilles (i do not know the name anymore exactly, but I think it was mentioned or coordinated by Paul Hoetjes), you could follow tortoises on their track throught the sea, they had a gps and a small satellite connected datalogger glued on their back. Something like this

I imagined their idea, their concept of time. They always have time. They also become old, older than humans sometimes. To them "not having time" is not , as far as i can imagine, in their thought. They notice the sun, waves, perhaps are aware of the seasons. Their time is cyclical and not linear. There is no end, it cannot be in short supply. So i want to visualise sun, moon, waves.

I'm now busy with the head, making it into a steel part that will be fixed on the old stool. The old stookl will be changed, a former owner had brushed the surface and stained it dark brown, which has to be removed.

I work with a router, make patterns, geometrical patterns. I don't know where it will end, but i'm now thinking of a relief on the stool, that envisions start, the moon, the sun. And perhaps some wave shape at the lower part of the stool . We'll see, we'll discover it, time will tell it.
